SMTP mail sending slows down requiring a reboot
I am still using ver 712 on OS X 10.2.1 server. Plain vanilla
settings without any spam filtering, RBL (can't figure out how to
use). Just POP before SMTP. I have maybe 40 accounts active and of
these perhaps 10-15 that are heavily used. I told everyone to only
use POP and not IMAP so I won't keep getting those annoying IMAP
error messages via Email.
The server was set up about 3 weeks ago and ran smoothly since. But a
couple of days ago, users started to complain that their mail would
take a couple of hours to get sent. One user actually said his mail
was never sent even though he did not get any bounce or smtp refusal
to relay error messages.
I looked in the Deferred Mail/ View/Process List of Queued Mail panel
and the mail queue and did not see any mail "stuck" in it.
I did not know where else to look. This is where it would be nice to
have SMTP status like Webstar 4 Mail has so you can see at a glance
what is going on with the SMTP server.
Rebooting fixed the problem. Has anyone else seen this? The SMTP
server will continue to receive mail. Just the relaying starts to
slow down.
