If you had a beige G3 lying around, Jaguar runs surprisingly well on 
a 233mhz machine.  A G3 233 with 192MB (ought to have more) is my 
main machine at home running Jaguar.  Running a backup mail server 
would be a piece-o-cake for such a box.

If one liked Linux so much I suppose one wouldn't be on this list but 
would be running an open source mail server and saving money.  But 
we're not probably because we consider our time important among other 
things.  A spare G3 and a copy of 10.2 is pretty darn cheap.  Linux 
isn't always cheaper all considered and PC hardware isn't either when 
you consider total cost of ownership.

Improperly configured backup mail servers are a big problem too since 
they tend not to get much attention.  Make sure you really need one 
in the 1st place.
