You can set up an additional Post.Office system on a second machine
with no mail accounts. This second system simply acts as a
forwarder for your domains. Since it doesn't have mail accounts, it
doesn't need a license. If your real mail server is down the back
up forwarder will hold the mail. That way no mail bounces and you
don't lose any mail during a temporary outage.
Sue, this is a very good thing and you should actually "sell" this as
a feature of PO. (Single server license also allows for setup of an
accountless secondary mail forwarder.) I am unsure how you can set up
a PO with no mail accounts, however. When I first set up my PO with
just my account for PO admin, according to Post.Office, there were 3
accounts:
Postmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
root@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
me@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Is there a special method of creating an instance of PO with zero
accounts that is undocumented? I would guess that many of us have
spare iMac's laying around that would serve great as secondary mail
servers on even a home dsl or cable connection using dynamic dns.
BTW, the setup for PO to act as secondary mail server is the utmost
of elegance! I had to try it to make sure that it works and was
pleasantly surprised when it worked as advertised!
