Which mail clients don't do SMTP auth?

Agreed. But it is a necessary workaround until all mail clients
support SMTP Auth. Sorry Bob Minor, for using your name in vain. I
was a Bob Minor when I first used PO. Fortunately for me, was not
caught by the RBLs before I learned from this list about the dangers.
Bob, I had verizon dialup (when it used to be gte.net) for years and
then they changed their smtp server to ONLY allow their users to use
it IF their return address ends with @verizon.com. That made it
impossible for me to use. PLUS, they will not let you use any OUTSIDE
smtp server to send mail. So after talking to everyone I can in their
support group, I had to cancel my account and switch to Earthlink,
which will tolerate a return address not ending in @earthlink.net.
So, as long as the ISP world is in constant flux, the only solution
for email providers like us to offer our users universal access to
their email (send and receive) is to either switch from PO to a
program like Kerio or CGP that offers integrated Webmail or learn to
play games with SMTP auth or faking it.
Thanks to PO, my life is much improved and no users have complained
about not being able to send mail from any kind of weird combination
of email clients and connections.
