If I am not mistaken 550 is a no-relay error message. I have POP
before SMTP enabled to keep my email server from acting as an
open-relay. I fear this means that the current product won't allow
outgoing mail for IMAP users unless you want to act as an open relay
- is that correct? Or is the problem something else?
The theory behind POP-before-SMTP is that when you log as a pop user,
the IP from you logged becomes open for a while allowing SMTP access
(and relay) from this IP.
What I do not know is if in PO there is some kind of
"IMAP-before-SMTP"... not so as per your experience :-)
BTW, I have been using localhost in allowed relay hosts but somebody
cracked my machine and achieved my PO relaying about 500 thousand
messages untill I stoped relay.
That's why I asked Tenon for authenticated SMTP in Post.Office which
is more widely used to avoid relay and very effective.
With authenticated SMTP you need an ID and a password to be allowed
for sending email when you are in a remote location, of course, this
ID and pass can be the same used in POP in order to keep things
simple.
Some mail servers by far more simple than Post.Office are offering
such a possibility.
