When setting up a moderated list, how can we avoid sending all the people on the list the "Welcome" message? It's not.

I set up a test list to require moderator response.
I received the request to the listmasters address, replied with thee
password, and got another response confirming my email. But I haven't
had the original post get forwarded to the list. I've tried this twice
now.

Any ideas?

I thought of this, but If I do that, then any one of the subscribers
could potentially send a post to the list, and the list administrator
could start getting a lot of mail.

some of these lists go out to 10's of thousands of people. It doesn't
take many responding directly to the list to create a headache for the
listmaster.

i guess I could alter the listname in the headers so no one actually
knows the listname to send to, but then they cannot subscribe either.

The other problem is that someone other than the listmaster sends these
announcements. And this person does not need to be getting ALL the
listmaster mail, so I cant forward listmaster to them.

i like the idea of only allowing one email address to post to the list,
if only I could add another lever of security. Is there any way of
allowing only one person to post to the list, AND have it moderated. I
could live with that. :)

any suggestions as to the best way of doing this are appreciated.

Thanks!

Jim

Jim,

you can always turn on moderation so that any messages that are
sent to the
list are returned to the list administrator for confirmation. This will
basically include a verification password, and once the message is
returned
to the server, it will be posted to the list.

I have it closed for posting except for a particular address, but if
someone got ahold of that address they could then post. Is there a way
to send a password or something?

  Thanks
