I'm considering adding WebEdge to my
present Post.office system and I can't find a faq for it. I need
to know the following:
1. Can I run webedge on the same
machine as my present server?
Yes.
a.
If so what are the RAM requirements for doing so?
64 MB recommended, 100MB disk space per 10,000 users
b.
how should DNS be set up so I can just hand an address like
webmail.copytoneonline.com ?
It should not require any additional DNS; it should be utilizing
your current PO set up. For example, if your MX record is already set
up as webmail.copytoneonline.com, all of your mail pushes to your that
IP. WebEdge allows you to access your mail remotely using this
information. Admin would type in address line:
http://webmail.copytoneonline.com:8090 (or whatever port you set
up for users when installing).
Users would type in address line:
http://webmail.copytoneonline.com:89 (or whatever port you set
up for users when installing). It will require, however, that you
allow access for these 2 ports on the firewall.
Don't expect a full IMAP implementation. All you will get is an
Inbox. There is no way to have your sent mail go into a Sent folder (I
suppose if there was a way to customize, Tenon would have included
that info in the download).
2. Any installation caveats?
I'm presently running 711 on a 10.1.5 Bondi iMac which I believe
has either 160 or 256 megs of RAM on it.
I did have some trouble with the installer, but Sue sent me back
to the Web site to pick up the latest WebEdge installer and that
worked fine.
Did I do okay, Anita and Sue? : )
