I was just bitten by this, too, I think. Just tried to log in and was
refused. I know the postmaster account is still there.
Yesterday I changed the mail forwarding for it, and the root user account
disappeared. I figured so long as postmaster was there it was OK. Apparently
not.
My server runs headless. Now I have to take it down again and fix it. <sigh>
