using Spammer_IP.txt causing SMTP-Accept ps to stack up
List,
After posting the tip about using curl to stay in sync with the
Spammer_IP.txt file, I have seen some problems with the filter the way I
implemented it. I am quite sure it works since JS and others seem to be
having good results and have shared the benefits.
So, I gleefully placed my local copy of the list into service in the Dest
field of the SMTP filter. i put the file into a world-readable location. I
chose 'filename' from the pop-up for the filter field. i set the path
correctly.
yet, everytime i turn on the filter i keep getting SMTP-Accept processes
stacked up and they gum up the entire system until I shutdown PO.
So, to anyone thinking of following the advice to sync using curl and the
filename pop-up with this file of IPs, please don't, you'll be sorry.
John, a few questions:
--do you use the filename pop-up in the filter or do you just paste the data
into a field? I see from your posting that you advise 'copy-n-paste' but i
chose to ignore that part of the instruction.
--if you don't use the filename pop-up, why not, have you seen problems with
it?
TIA,
dan
