I would and I think the list would benefit greatly from a bit of
documentation of your learnings.

--What were you doing wrong before?
--How did you/Anita fix it?
--What do you understand now that you didn't before?
--What tricky things are there to remember when setting up SMTP filters?

First, there are some bugs in the filters, Tenon is working on that and on some pre-configured filters that we can import, so keep that in mind first.

Putting an * in the Source area when configuring header/destination/body filters may start filters working that do not appear to be working otherwise (also adding the same in the final "To" line of Header category.

The "AND" is assumed between categories, so not required when creating filters for a specific domain (Destination)

The filter's do not like spaces, so replace spaces in your phrases for subject and body with \s (eg, instead of cool values, make it cool\svalues). This is a bug that Tenon is working on.

Capitalization issues only apply to body filters, in header filters *viagra* is just as effective as *[vV]iagra*

The black list databases are marginal at best; really stopping spam is an ongoing effort (made easier by folks like John, who share their work). But setting up spam catching addresses and setting up filters accordingly is what will work right now.

SIDEBAR: This is the basic premise of Spamassissin.org, where everyone is reporting spam to one place and it is dynamically restributed; this keeps ISPs one step ahead of spammers rather than the other way around. Hey Tenon! Let me throw my vote in for spamassissin integration PLEASE!!!!

While it does take some work, I do enjoy spam filtering -- or rather the results, as seeing the spam numbers dimish is a real joy!
