I don't use IMAP much; all of my users are on POP.  However, I 
started using IMAP and IMAP errors are mailed to root when a action 
can't be performed; I this this is by default.  I just check my root 
mail account (first time in months) and it had 250 messages on IMAP 
errors -- was told by Tenon this is normal, not to sweat it.

If you set your root mail account to POP vs IMAP, given what you 
outlined, it may be easier to clear-out these errors.
