That is Mail.app, which I referred to as what I notice the behavior in.  I
will try Entourage as well, but seeing the same behavior in two different
clients makes me think this is a server issue.  Could there be a server
setting that I can manipulate that would rectify this behavior?  Even sent
mail from one session gets marked unread when I launch the client again
later.

And again, I don't see this bug in the Postfix server that I connect to
for another IMAP account of mine, using the same client software.

I don't know what you mean here: do you not have folders in your IMAP
account, and do you not filter mail or move mail from one folder to
another ever?

Again, Mail.app, the same client you say is working flawlessly for you.
Although I do concede that perhaps there is some server setting that may
govern this, that I could fix right now, if I knew what it was.  Would
anyone have any idea what could be causing mail that is moved from one
folder to another to be marked as unread?
