Yes, it's possible. You can try to reconstruct __cache__ and __lock__ for your folders.
In __cache__, there should be a list of mail filenames in the current folder, for example:

1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 0 512
2@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 0 512
3@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 0 512
4@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 0 512
5@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 0 512
6@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 0 512

Keep the next two set of numbers.

__lock__ files should be empty. After this is done, you should flush out any existing setting from your mail clients, and download the emails from the server again. When this is completed, move the mail to another local mail folder, and delete the current user on the Mail server. Next, recreate the account again, and forward mails back to their original places. Do not use Entourage with IMAP, it really mess up the IMAP account.

Eric

Is there any way to retain the history for the user (me!), primarily the "sent" history?

Yes, you should delete the user. It seems like that user might have corrupted __CACHE__ file in the IMAP folder..

I have a IMAP account that has suddenly became problematic (its my only IMAP account); it grinds on the server forever and never really syncs -- I assume it must be corrupt. I confirmed this behavior on (2) difference OSX email clients.

When trying to allow the IMAP client to sync, the IMAP_servers invoke a major processor hit to my PO/Apache_server, launching several IMAP_server processes eating up processor -- thus affecting my entire server, network, etc.

This occurred the on Friday, I purchased the 3.6 upgrade hoping it would fix the problem, but it did not.

Short of deleting this IMAP user, is there a way to fix?
