RE: poll: filter message when ClamAV is down
Dan,
Go for the upgrade to Post.Office 3.6 because the ClamAV module works
nicer than my anti-virus script. It sits in front your mailboxes
instead of inside the mailboxes. You can still run my anti-virus
script side by side to do additional filtering for unknown viruses or
to block certain attachments.
Although clamd crashes from time to time (I haven't been able to
track down the cause), it is automatically restarted by a script I
wrote which continuously checks the presence of clamd. So although
the crashes are annoying, there's no harm done.
I went so far and installed a 10 user Post.Office 3.6 with ClamAV on
one of our backup Xserves and modified the MX of our primary domain
to that Xserve so that all messages that come in on that domain will
get virus checked and then Post.Office re-routes the messages to the
final mail server (which is still on FreeBSD). It caught around 4000
viruses in the last 12 hours since I installed it. In the coming
days, I will decide whether I should keep this setup and if clamd is
stable enough for the mail load were getting.
Joe.

I wonder if the spamassassin plug-in does the same thing? I have

Why would Tenon do this? I am guessing it was not on purpose. If
it was it needs to be fixed or some sort of config file for the
plug-in's so that the more advances sys-admins can fix this kind of stuff.
To add to my vote I would add that I was planning to upgrade just
for the virus scanning but this issue is making me re-think the
idea. I just got my new G5 XServe / XServe RAID on Friday and I
have bee kicking around the idea of moving to Post-fix which I
assume I can configure to not do this.
