Brian,

I had a similar problem.

Ended up I had too many spam filters in the PostOffice interface.

Many SMPT-Accept process would stack up, and SMTP would grind to a halt as
it was checking through all the filters.

Just to add a little ... Heinz is correct in that if for some reason Post.Office starts to slow down or stops sending mail altogether the culprit is usually the SMTP-Accept processes stacking up. However this is not due to "too many" filters, but ill-formed filters, or filters in the message body.

I removed the majority of the SPAM filters from PostOffice and entered them
directly in the Spam-Assassin config file.

And, yes, since we now have SpamAssassin, letting SpamAssassin do the bulk of the filtering and reserving the SMTP filters for specialized, even temporary filters is probably the best way to go.

Brian, if you haven't added new filters recently, you might want to have Tenon take a look at your system.

Seems to have fixed the problem.

Subject: Server stops receiving mail

Over the past week or so, Post.Office has periodically stopped
receiving new mail. I can still check mail, but no new mail arrives
until I restart the server.

I've tried stopping and starting Post.Office, but that doesn't restart
receiving. Only restarting the server works, of the things I've tried,
which is a bummer because this is my Web server as well. After the
restart, messages sent in while the server was funky trickle in, with
no apparent loss of messages.

Any suggestions on where to look for a reason would be most welcome.

Thanks,
Brian
