Dear Ken,

Yes, I installed as root, and then ran sudo spamassassin -D --lint. The
result showed SpamAssassin 3.0.3. The interesting thing is that the config
file moved from /etc/mail/spamassassin to /etc/spamassassin/ from 2.6 to
3.0.2, but with the 3.0.2 to 3.0.3 upgrade, the config file is back at
/etc/mail/spamassassin.

Charles,
I'm utterly confounded by the mta user. Did you literally install as 
root and it all worked fine?
