I believe that Photoshop already supports the multiprocessor APIs used by
Mac OS 9.  If the hardware did this, the OS would have to directly support
this or problems could arise.

I believe the most hardware can do is take advantage of superscaler
technology where it can perform multiple FPU operations because it has
multiple FPU pipelines.  Theoretically we have multiprocessing now because
processors can handle multiple FPU, Integer and Altivec processes at a time.
The problem I believe is that those only work for one thread (application
process) at a time.  In other words if you have 3 FPU pipes and 2 Integer
pipes and one thread needed 2 FPU pipes and 1 Integer pipes, it would not
use the extra FPU and Integer pipes for the other thread.  Having 2
processors solve this.

What Apple my have do is provide some limited form of multiprocessing in the
Mac OS that does not require application support.
