Does anyone know a way to kick someone out of their FTP program after a certain time of inactivity?

I have a client's server that does that to me if I just sit there for more ten minutes of idle. They are running Unix. I think on an IBM machine.

Also, thanks to everyone who gave me direction on the USB devices and battery back ups!
