Thanks Stephanie for the help so far but I
fear I am not communicating my needs to well and am still missing
something.

Thanks for the hints so far but it is
still not hitting home. I believe I have been trying what has been
suggested so far. My ISP domain is nwlink.com, I add that to my TCP/IP
settings under Search domains along with my IP number (and other
details).
The search domain should be your upstream
ISP's domain name since they provide you with DNS.
The IP number for your machine
("nwlink.com") should go into the IP address field of TCP/IP
control panel.
The primary and secondary DNS IP
addresses, as provided by your ISP, should go into the DNS section of
the TCP/IP control panel.
nwlink.com is the domain name server/Domain
Suffix of my ISP, the upstream. So it is what I have entered into the
TCP/IP control panel for search domain (nwlink.com is NOT the domain I
am serving). The IP number and primary and secondary DNS IP addresses,
as provided by my ISP, are also entered into the TCP/IP control
panel.
My custom domain, www.kuwago.com,
has been registered with Internic and set up by my ISP to be DNS
served by nwlink.com
It's going to be served by the server,
but nwlink.com domain doesn't really have anything to do with it, it
just happens to also be a domain that is being served from the same
hardware.
The nwlink.com domain is providing the
domain name service and is also the domain name server for my
computer.
and to point to the IP they
assigned me. If I put in the host www.kuwago.com into Anarchie it does
spit back the correct IP so it appears that part of it has been
completed by my ISP.
It would seem to me that I should put in
host: www, domain: kuwago.com. However, if I put in anything other
than nwlink.com (for the domain in the WebTen preferences) WebTen will
change it back to nwlink.com, even though the other domain is
registered.
Where are you talking about entering
this? If your upstream ISP has made the DNS entries (and it looks like
they have), the only place you need to enter info is into the virtual
host table.
I am talking about the Preferences of
WebTen (under File) in the menu, as shown on page 38 of the manual. It
still seems that what I need here is host: www, domain: kuwago.com but
again WebTen will change the back to nwlink.com after I enter it (and
thus my server is set as www.nwlink.com which it is absolutely not)!
kuwago.com is a registered domain but is not the name of a domain
server.
What do I place in WebTen preferences for
the host and domain name?
In the virtual host table.
Not where, WHAT
host name = ? www ?
Domain name = ? kuwago.com ?
I suppose after I get this set up then I
can enter other names into the virtual hosts table using the WebTen
admin.
Do I need to be running the WebTen DNS
service on my end?
No.
So DNS on my end is not necessary for
virtual hosting with a single IP number?
It is recommended that you replace OT
with Tenon's stack for performance reasons, but that may not work for
you depending on what other applications you run on the same
machine.
I only have one IP number available and do
not want to pay an extra $25 per month for another. I do not need
Tenon's stack for performance since this is a development server that
I and maybe one or two other people in a day will interact
with.
