Hello Michael Collins. On 2000-12-26 22:16, you wrote:

That's good.

I understood that.

I don't have access to my WebTen server at this time, but as I wrote
before: you must have a DNS set up to point to your IP-number for
kuwago.com. If your ISP did not yet do this, you may set up the DNS
within WebTen. And: WebTen needs to know about who does the DNS.

It IS necessary, but it is unimportant, WHO provides DNS services.
Either your ISP or WebTen itself. The virtual hosts don't require
additional IP numbers; they use a technique called "header-based
virtual hosts".
I think the best idea is to ask your ISP to set up DNS for you for
kuwago.com (your "main" address, as I understood it), pointing www, ftp
and everything (except mail) to the IP number assigned to you. For all
other virtual hosts, it is best to set up primary DNS within WebTen.
Ask your ISP to provide secondary DNS for the other domains.

It's up to you how you organize yourself. I use dual-stack, with 2 IP-
numbers. The Tenon stack is for WebTen only, on the other addtess I
have a mailand a list server running, and Timbuktu for remote
administration of the server. I have made the experience that although
the dual stack config CAN live with a single physical ethernet port, it
is easier to use when you add a second ethernet card to the machine.
That way you avoid problems if the two addresses need to "talk" to each
other - for example when a CGI-script wants to send mail to an address
on the mail server. But again: If you don't need 2 addresses, it is not
necessary to implement them.
Best wishes, Christian.
PS - could you please SWITCH OFF HTML in your mail application. Thank
you.
