Re: Preferences in WebTEN
Continued
When I install WebTen and enter my preferences, particularly Domain Name,
I'm able to get access to the home page that come with WebTen. But when I
reboot the system, my domain name gets changed to my ISP's network
gobble-de-gook and I can't access -anything- on the server. I have to
reinstall the server. What is going on?
In TCP/IP control panel, under search domains, put your domain in
first, before your ISPs. Weird, but that's how it works.
Stephanie, I entered a domain name in the TCP/IP search domains box in this
format: sportscore.com
Is that a real domain name with valid DNS entries for the IP number
of the machine?
then hit the return key to move my ISP's search domain to the second line.
You were right that the domain name now shows up in my preferences. But when
I enter "www.sportscore.com" in a browser I get a 404 error in the Access
Log. So the server knows that domain is there. But it won't download a
page.
So, that domain has a valid DNS entry?
It is entered in the virtual host table of WebTen? with a root folder
designated?
And there are html pages in the root folder for that VH?
Then I tried entering the IP name (I guess that's what it's called) assigned
to that IP address in the TCP/IP search domain box: umpire.softballnews.com
You would want "umpire" as a host name (in the WebTen prefs), and
"softballnews.com" in the search domain box of TCP/IP and the domain
name box of the WebTen prefs.
It, too, shows up in the preferences, but when I try to get access with a
browser, I get the 404 error. On my very first install of WebTEN I entered
this "umpire.softballnews.com" into the domain field and I was able to
download the home page. But on reboot, as I mentioned, I got a 404 error.
OK, - I just checked your "umpire.softballnews.com" host, and it
looks like you've got WebTen responding OK there, now, on to the rest.

Another question is, I've installed
WebMail Pro and I can -never- get access to anything on it. I
click the link
on the default web page and I just get nothing.
Click the link - you mean when you enter a full email username and password?
Stephanie, don't they have to sign up for webmail first?
Not if there are already mail accounts created on another mail
server. Only if you are creating them within the Sendmail part of
WebTen
I cant' get to the
signup page on Webmail. I can't get to the Admin page on Webmail. I can't
get to anything on webmail. Isn't it useless to try to access your webmail
if you haven't signed up for an account?
Depends - you can use webmail to check any mail account. What it is
doing is acting (more or less) like a POP mail client, (but leaves
the mail on the server) - so it collects mail from any mail server,
then html formats it, so that WebTen can serve it up in web pages to
the client browser.
So the answer is, if you are checking mail accounts that already
exixt on another mail server, then no, you don't have to set up the
account in webmail, you just log in.
However, I see that trying to go to "umpire.softballnews.com/webmail"
isn't working. so lets' figure that out.
how about contacting me via private email, and I can Timbuktu into
the server to see what's up.
