Getting WebTEN to Work - DAY 7!!!!!!!!

As suggested in this forum I erased my hard drive, reinstalled OS9, updated
it. Reinstalled all the apps I had on it (Filemaker, EIMS), configured my
TCP/IP settings and for the 8th time reinstalled WebTEN. Though I've
purchased WebMAIL Pro, I did not install it at the suggestion of someone on
the list. Instead I have the standard WebMAIL installed just so things will
be simpler.

So why is it that I can only open the WebEvent sample cgi if I use my *email
address* in the URL? And why would the route to WebEvent and WebMail be
through, not an HTML page, but the page that lists only the Parent Directory
and sub-directories.  I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation for this.

To say that I'm frustrated and have had my fill if WebTEN would be an
understatement of Biblical proportions.  I'm sure it has everything to do
with my configuration (or lack thereof) of WebTEN. The thing is, I haven't
any idea how WebTEN's URL paths work.  They confound me.  I don't know where
to look in the Users Guide anymore because it seems to me that the Users
Guide has this tone of voice that assumes everyone knows how paths are
structured in WebTEN and that all this business of using an alias, seemingly
for EVERYTHING, is as clear as rain water.  I've yet to agree with that tone
and more and more I'm thinking that this server is about to become obsolete
with the arrival of OS X.  Is that true?  Have I just paid over a thousand
dollars for a server application and cgi (WebMAIL Pro) that not only will
not work on a brand new G4 500 with 500 megs of RAM (with a newly formatted
hard drive), it was sold with full knowledge that it's months are numbered
by less fingers than two on a single hand? That may be a worst-case
scenerio.

I think the answer is probably "No". I hope so. I have arrived on a plateau
called WebTEN. For me it's a substantial plateau and I cannot see the
heights it leads to yet.  Because I was such a bumbling fool with my first
server, WebStar, I had it serving six domains within 2 hours of installing
it. WebTEN is obviously quite different. I'll need someone to hold my hand
with WebTEN. 

The Lord, I'm informed, created the world in seven days. In seven days I've
created nothing with WebTEN. If my own ignorance is at fault - let it be
published and jeered - it doesn't matter to me. I only want to know how to
run this server and I'm I'd like to move even an inch forward to anyone has
a moment to spare to point me in the right direction.
