DNS Lookup When Adding VHosts

All three of the hosts shown below are aliases of www2.MDCCLXXVI.com. As 
Stephanie pointed out, looking up www2.thecassandraproject.org results in two 
lookups, one to find out that www2.thecassandraproject.org is a CNAME for 
www2.MDCCLXXVI.com and a second to get the IP address of www2.MDCCLXXVI.com. 
But I don't see that second query taking place...

This may be because WT already knows the IP address of www2.MDCCLXXVI.com, 
since it's a host on this WT machine. Or it may be because, as I surmised 
earlier, WT is expecting an A record from it's lookup of 
www2.thecassandraproject.org and doesn't know what to do with the CNAME result 
it gets back.

Incidentally, I tried numerous times to add the VHost 
www2.thecassandraproject.org last night. I restarted the DNS server. I 
restarted WT. Nothing I did would result in a good lookup.

This morning, I resumed my attempts and it worked the first time. What does 
that suggest? That the WT machine had a "failed" lookup in its cache? That the 
cache entry had expired by morning and the lookup then succeeded?
