Your 'slow at first' symptom could be a database issue - the first time you access the db FMP might be indexing a field, reading data from disk to RAM cache or something else like that.

I've been running WT & FMP on the same G4 for over a year now, and I've found it fast & stable. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Hi again,
        There seems to be some problem when running FMP on the same machine
as WebTen. I set up FMP on my WebTen box for someone at one stage & while
WebTen ran fine, FMP was very slow to initially respond, but really flew
once it started responding.
        As for the virus / stalling issue, I'm drawing a blank again - as
mentioned, haven't had that issue since switching Squid off. Just as an
aside, there are 2 caches on WebTen - I think you said you had them both
switched off, but wanted to make sure.
