Check your name server settings.

What you're describing is the problem that usually happens if you fail to
properly define the Name Server.

Be sure that if your name server is different from your domain, ie name
server is ns1.bob.com, and the domain is www.john.com, that you have put a
period at the end of the name server like:

 ns1.bob.com.

otherwise, the server will define it as ns1.bob.com.john.com.
