Ever have a Flash Call from I.E. 5.0 SP2 Win. crash your server?
We did under the following conditions:
Flash 5 file calls for a page containing another Flash 5 file to be loaded
in a new browser window. Page displays showing the background and a white
space where the Flash file should be.
Look over my shoulder, instant MacsBug GreySOD. Just to confirm it, I
cleared my cache and tried going through the process a few more times with
this occurring every time.
Base problem seems to have been that the page being called only used the
EMBED tag and didn't include the OBJECT tag. Once that was added, the
problem was resolved and the system stopped crashing.
Interestingly though, the system wouldn't crash if you went to the second
page directly without routing through the first, or if you waited for the
server to reboot and then hit RELOAD on the second page...
I've only directly seen this "bug", and I use the term loosely, using IE 5.0
SP2 on Win NT. I would, however, speculate that it would also affect IE 5.0
on Win9X as that's what the boss was using at home when he phoned in to
complain. While I wasn't here to correlate if the machine crashed when he
attempted to access the page, the described "symptoms" were the same.
Win IE 5.5 SP2, Mac IE 5, and Netscape 4.7X on neither Mac nor Windows would
not trigger this problem when I tested them.
Anyone else ever have a problem like this?
