WebTen
With a WebTen self-signed SSL cert, Windows 98 and MSIE 5 offer the user the
choice to proceed with a secure connection or not. In fact, MSIE asks you if
you'd like to install the self-signed cert so as to permit it to be trusted in
the future. Cool. One could, if desired, place a note on your site and tell
people to expect a warning and what to do to proceed with the transaction.
MSIE 5.1.3 on Mac OS X, however, offers no such choices. It simply refuses to
establish a secure connection. Period. Netscape walks the user through a
process of accepting the cert for just the current session, until the cert
expires or not at all. Much better.
Is there anything that can be done? Is there a way to make an installer for
MSIE Mac?
