What happens to bounced e-mails?

Subject: What happens to bounced e-mails?

I just got back from vacation to find that my mail server had been bouncing
messages from my web server for the past few days (combination of a screwy
dns blacklist and a typo in my mailserver whitelist).

What happens to these messages? Is there any way I can retrieve them or
re-send them? It seems they just fell into a void.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
