>for me to serve unique urls 'www.yourdomain.com', do i have to be a DNS
server?
You don't HAVE to be one, no.
if not how do i serve those?
if so, how do i server those?
is this doable this over [my server's] one IP?
The Internic requires that every domain have at least 2 associated DN
servers. They recommend that the servers be located on separate
networks(geographically) for redundancy. There are quite a few DNS
hosting services available; some are even free. If anyone knows of any
off the top of their head, please reply.
So, you can use your server as one DN server (as long as it is connected
to the internet ALL of the time with a non-changing STATIC IP address),
but you still need access to another DN server. These DN servers need to
be registered with a domain name registration service (such as
www.networksolutions.com or another) to be identified as being
authoritative for that particular domain name.
If you don't have a clue as to how to do this, please say so. I'm sure
we can get you through it.
i'd like for the end user to enter 'www.yourdomain.com' and be served
the index or default .html page, or whatever (script perhaps), to
your site.
Well, that is what is supposed to happen.
i'm not clear and perhaps my configuration problems lie in the setup
of OS X pb Network TCP/IP and Services panels? i.e., what goes in
them!!?? i tried so many things! i had it working once, i think!!
I guess you need to elaborate on this... To me it's pretty straight
forward as to the IP & services config. So, maybe you need spell out
what's wrong.
iTools (recent trial version, OX X pb)
Remember the trial version of iTools will 'quit' itself after 2 hours
after the trial period ends.
