I've seen this happen with OSXS a lot.  I have found that if I do a 'DIR' at 
the ftp> prompt, I don't see the all of the files and directories, but if I do 
a 'ls', I see them all.  I haven't gone any further than this, but I was 
presuming it was the 'DIR' alias setting for the ftp daemon.
