If I have named virtual hosts on my server

In the virtual hosts settings?

and they each have a primary
and secondary pointers to specific ip's,

What do you mean by that? Are you saying that you have two (or more) DNS servers that have records for those virtual hosts?

why do I need to have a DNS
entry for them?

If there are DNS entries on other DNS servers for your virtual hosts, there is no reason to add DNS entries in iTools.
