Does it say it couldn't resolve the nameserver just before it says it's closing
down squid????

This means that it doesn't know the nameserver and squid can't run so the
webserver (Even if it say it's running in the admin) will not run. This I
don't understand.....why would it say it's running in the admin when it really
isn't.....

OK if this is your problem there are a couple of reasons it could be........And
this only happens with OSX not with OSX Server...... if your connection is bad
to the internet for reasons like your isp is unreliable and sucks from time to
time.......it will not wait on bootup for a proper connection it will just never
resolve.........

FIX.....wait until you have a better connection and reboot......this should not
be but is......why the server was made dependent on a DNS resolve all of a
sudden Is beyond me.

Another reason for this could be (and I'm not sure why) there seems to be a
problem why dns and virtual host containers................

FIX.........erase the virtual host.....erase the dns entry...........re-do the
dns entry and create the virtual host again in that order........Like I
said....I don't know why but that does work..........

One other thing that may be a little far fetched.........Do not install with the
package installer as root.....log in as a admin user

good luck
