Any ideas why I had to manually change "Listen 81" to "Listen 80" to
get it to work?
Perhaps related to the Squid cache? Is it now on or off? I
believe that it generally listens on port 80 while Apache listens
on 81. :-) So, Apache would have been listening on 81, while Squid
transparently listened on 80. If the Squid install wasn't running
then that would become apparent.
Well, here's the thing:
If we set httpd.conf to serve Apache on port 81, the Squid cache
does indeed run. However, when we try to access our site, we get a
"Forbidden" error. When we change Apache to port 80, Squid gets
disabled, but the files get served just fine. In short, the site
doesn't work with Squid.
Squid is extremely picky about DNS, and simply won't work unless the
DNS is setup for the default hostname.
