Addendum: after several attempts, was able to boot the system from the OS 9.2 CD. Drive Setup 2.0.7 shows the internal Apple-brand SCSI hard drive to be "not supported" so I can't reformat the drive using this utility. I guess since I "accidentally" formatted it using OS X's Unix file system format option, the drive is now unrecognizable to OS 9. :: Hazlitt

Clean installed OS X on a G3/266 (320 MB RAM). Got to the "Select a Destination" screen and selected the "Erase destination and format as: Unix file system" options.

Later, as I was preparing to install iTools 6.5, I read the iTools PDF and read that "Apple and Tenon both recommend using the HFS+ disk format for use with Mac OS X."

I repeat the clean install process to fix my error, I'm on the "Select a Destination" screen, and the hard drive is dimmed. I can't select it and I can't choose "Erase destination and format as: Mac OS Extended."

When I roll over the disk icon with the cursor, this message is displayed: "This disk is dimmed because this Mac OS X CD installs different languages." There is a language dropdown that defaults to English on the previous "Software License Agreement" screen but I didn't change this default for either install.

I don't get it. I'm using the same CD that I used before. Any suggestions on how to wipe the drive and start the clean install?
