It may (at a wild guess) be something to do with this recent post...

I am new to OSX and iTools, so I might be way off on this. I will be replacing my WebTen with iTools in July, but have been on the iTools list for a couple of months gathering information on what to expect when I do my switch.

Anyway, I have been following the Sendmail problems people have been talking about the past few days. Today on the MacFixIt web site I read about a problem Griffin Technology posted to MacFixIt regarding a bug in Apple's "Package Maker" and the "Apple Installer".

Thanks Kamran for the helpful post, but this is not at all related to the sendmail problem in Mac OS X 10.1.5.

The sendmail issue is that Mac OS X 10.1.5 has the wrong permissions on the /var/spool/clientmqueue folder.

The permissions should be:
drwxrwx---   6 root  smmsp   160 Jun 12 11:32 clientmqueue

Not:
drwxrwx---   6 root  wheel   160 Jun 12 11:32 clientmqueue

This bug prevents users from using sendmail as a mailer agent.

No cgis that use sendmail will work.
Sendmail will report the error:

can not chdir(/var/spool/clientmqueue/): Permission denied
Program mode requires special privileges, e.g., root or TrustedUser.

As was pointed out by Eric Pooch in a previous message:

Because the iTools sendmail installer does not edit the /var/spool/clientmailqueue, we don't correct this error. So the Mac OS X error effectively breaks iTools.

The solution is to enter :

sudo chgrp smmsp /var/spool/clientmqueue

in the Terminal Application.

List,

Last night I upgraded from 10.1.4 (client) and iTools 6.5.2 and am now
getting errors when sending mail.

1. Installed Apple security, Network, 10.1.5 Update.
2. Ran the iTools 6.5.4 Core Software Installer

My PHP 'Configure Command' options had changed from the default iTools
options so:

3. Ran iTools PHP4-4.2.1.pkg

Did a reboot (just to make myself feel better) and all sites functioned
normally. Except now, I get the following error whenever a script attempts
to send mail.

Jul 24 21:17:29 www sendmail[10404]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR(www):
/etc/mail/submit.cf: line 416: readcf: option RunAsUser: unknown user smmsp
Jul 24 21:17:29 www sendmail[10404]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR(www):
/etc/mail/submit.cf: line 435: readcf: option TrustedUser: unknown user
smmsp

Any idea how to fix this?

Thank you in advance.

Regards
Stace Baal

(Oh, iTools only, no PostOffice installed.)
