Cris,

HFS+ does not support hard links, so that would explain that problem.
Hard links aren't a great idea anyway since it's hard to know where other
links to a particular file exist on the filesystem.

I haven't had much trouble with symbolic links and FTP, but I agree with
Nitai that they aren't the greatest idea.  The problem is that if you have
the following situation:

/Library/WebServer/WebSites/www.domain.com/directory -> /somewhereelse

If the user goes into "directory" and then tries to use ".." to get back
to the "www.domain.com" directory, he'll really be in "/", not in
/Library/WebServer/WebSites/www.domain.com.

This is confusing to most users and can also bring the user to places on
the filesystem where he can see more than he should.
