Re: Dumping OSXS for OSX - Clean Install?
My iTools box is currently running OS X Server 10.1.5. When I get my
OS X 10.2, I'm considering switching this box to plain OS X, not the
server version. It seems like many more people are running iTools on
the non-server version and can't relate to the Server OS quirks and
such.
Sorry this doesn't answer any of your questions but it is related. I
agree with you the general feeling reading the list (and despite
Tenon saying otherwise) is that the plain OS X client is a lot less
bother than the server version but we may be going the other way.
We are currently running iTools on G4 Quicksilver dual 1GHz towers
with OS X 10.1.5 client. We have ordered Xserves to replace these
'old' machines. Xserves come with OS X Server. Also included is a lot
of admin diagnostic type stuff.
What are Xserve people on the list doing?
Should we wipe the drives and install plain OS X?
Does the extra Xserve software install separately? I fear that future
Xserve specific updates from Apple will require OS X Server.
Also, is the list going to shift from OS X client to more people on
server as I presume Xserves will replace aging kit as time goes on?
