This is off topic but I am not sure where else to go.
I recently down graded my static DSL plan from 5 IP's to 2. I know
need to share my DSL connection on one of my servers via natd. I am
using the start-up script from IPNetshareX. The machine in question
has a second NIC card that I am using to create my private home LAN.
The built-in ethernet is on the DSL connection.
I set-up this up and connected my iBook directly via a plain patch
cable and all was well. I could connect to the net no problems.
The problem is that now I try to connect any other system that I have
(a G4 tower and an iMac) and nothing... no status lights nothing.
Here is my start-up script:
/usr/sbin/sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1
/sbin/ifconfig en1 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
/usr/sbin/natd -f /etc/natd.conf
/sbin/ipfw -f flush
/sbin/ipfw add 95 divert natd all from any to any via en0
/sbin/ipfw add 65530 pass all from any to any
My internal systems all have manual IP's set from 192.168.0.2 to
192.168.0.254 with a 255.255.255.0 subnet and 192.168.0.1 as a router.
The only thing I can find in common is that the two systems that
can't connect previously had 'static' ip's assigned via DHCP from my
ISP. The IP's were assigned at boot but they were always the same
(via the MAC addresses). Is there some sort of bizzare TCP/IP
caching system on OS X that would prevent the new network connection
from starting? On these systems ifconfig reports the interface but
it is reported as inactive.
I am hoping that some smart person on the list can give me an idea?
Thanks,
Dan
