Re: why isn't a pop daemon running on port 110? I installed pop3d pkg
Hi Listers,
I installed pop3d and imap packages and expected them to startup
automatically. I don't see any evidence of a pop daemon running, nor is port
110 open on our machine.
What do I have to do to get pop3d to work so that I can try to get mail?
If you've been following my last few emails, you'll see that i am having
lots of problems setting up mail to work. I've moved from trying to get
email sent to getting it received!
best,
dan
Hi Dan,
During my stuffed upgrade to OSX 10.2.5 & the attempted
migration to iTools 7 from 6.5.7 (have had to revert to 6.5.7 until
everything is fixed up again), I have had the same problem after
every reboot.
In the /etc/inetd.conf file, you need to make sure the
following lines are active:
pop3 stream tcp nowait root /usr/libexec/ipop3d popd
imap4 stream tcp nowait root /usr/libexec/imapd imapd
These should be listed straight after the commented bootpd
line. Up until last night, my install kept getting those lines
commented out after a reboot, but Tenon have logged into the system &
fixed something & it now seems much better, though 2 different
problems are happening - named & httpd are not starting on boot now.
hope this helps out.

Bye for now, Terry Allen
