Hi Glenn,

Thanks for the tip. Deleting the receipt .pkg worked insofar as I was able
to get through the installer without it telling me that it hit errors. It
performed what it told me was a basic install.

However,

Now I have two icons for MySQL in the main iTools screen! Yipes!

And the initial problem I sought to solve by re-installing remains... I set
up a root password and it locked me out of the web interface to phpMyAdmin.
I wanted to simply re-install it and start again from scratch.

Now things are FUBAR and starting from scratch has just made two MySQLs
appear. Hmmmnn...

Any more ideas folks?

How can I wipe the MySQL slate clean and start over?

  It's my impression that the best way to do a full re-install is to
 delete the receipts .pkg from the /Library/Receipts directory.  Then the
 new install should overwrite most everything but the prefs. or data files
 created by a user.

  Those can be deleted by hand or left to be "reused" by the new
 install, depending on your particular needs or circumstances ( preserve
 existing data, remove possibly corrupt prefs., etc. ).
