However, the alert came back as soon as I reinstalled iTools.
This is because iTools FTP can not be recognized by Apple Server
Setting program.
Therefore, it's normal.
Could you please describe how to change the /etc/hosts file regarding the
hostname resolution. I don't intend to run the DNS server portion of
iTools, though if I have to to solve this, I suppose I will.
In the Terminal, type:
hostname
This will give you a string. i.e. fred.example.com
Edit /etc/hosts with a text editor, like
sudo pico /etc/hosts
Look for entry:
127.0.0.1 localhost
Append fred.example.com to localhost with a space between them.
Save the file, and FTP should work. You can execute:
sudo /Library/Tenon/System/Scripts/FTPSERVER restart
to see if there are any error message.
Also, I installed Post.Office but then changed my mind about running both my
mail services and web services on the same machine, so I uninstalled, but
the iTools Manager still tells me to use the web interface to administer
Post.Office when I click on the Mail icon.
How did you remove Post.Office? Did you remove it with the installer.sh?
If not, you need to remove /Library/Receipts/Post-Office.pkg, then
iTools Manager will not complain about the Mail server. Hope this
helps.

Eric

Hi,
The Apple Server Setting panel should not be used in conjuction with
iTools because Apple Server Setting will attempt to start up their own
FTP server which will cause a conflict on your system.
You might want to check /etc/xinetd.d. There is probably a file called
ftp.darwin, and rename it to ftp. This should allow you to enable
Apple's FTP server in Apple Server Setting.
For iTools 7's FTP doesn't work on your system. This could be an
unresolved hostname which prevent iTools 7 to start. You would need to
configure DNS or put your hostname in /etc/hosts file to make your
hostname resove so iTools FTP would start. Hope this helps.

Eric

In the Apple Server Settings panel, there's a yellow alert message
attached
to FTP services telling me I have an "Indeterminate FTP state!" that
only
goes away if I manually start/stop FTP services within that panel.
Restarting FTP server within the iTools Manager or web admin interface
doesn't work, and obviously this isn't going to work if that has to be
manually started/restarted.
I've now uninstalled iTools in order to try and isolate the problem,
but
it's still there...
Anyone have any ideas?
