iTools
Mike,
Thanks for the reply.
I have the server sitting here alongside my production machine, and
usually edit the pages in a text editor right on the server. I have
changed the Owner of the website directory I'm dealing with to my
user account, and left the Group as www. Now I can do as I please
with the files and folders. Is this okay, as long as the Group is
www? I'm still a little fuzzy on the permissions stuff.

Umm, I'm logged onto my webserver with my usual account with admin
permissions. So how are you supposed to add folders and files to
your website folders? So far I've copied a few things over from
other places by relaying the files from here to there and finally
into the website folder after having to authenticate myself each
time. Is it normal to create stuff outside the website folder, then
move it in? If that's what's expected, okay. But if not, I'd like
to know how to directly monkey with the material in the website
folder. It's how I'm used to working...
Hi Terry -
iTools is not a website creation tool, it just does administration.
You'll need to use something else to get the data to the website. I
usually use an FTP client like Transmit, but I'll also mount the
website directories on my local system and work on them using
BBEdit. Another way is to use the Terminal or an xterm to access the
remote server and edit the files with vi, pico or emacs. And there
are programs like MacroMedia's DreamWeaver that will let you just
deal with the look and feel of the pages, so you don't have to worry
about the HTML as much.
