new installation, not serving

I am running iTools as a demo, on OX 10.3. I've successfully set up 
WebCatalog, and initially Apache was serving correctly. I copied over 
a folder from my other webserver, and it worked great. Then I started 
going through the manual and the admin interface, both web-based and 
standalone application. Because it comes up early in the manual, I 
fooled around with DNS, but turned it off until I had something real 
to configure, since I already have a couple of entries in my existing 
name server pointing to this Mac's IP address (one is 
opal.terryfic.com). I added them to the virtual hosts, and although 
the directories were created and everything appears to be in the 
right place, the default installed pages aren't being served. In 
addition, not even the IP address (http://209.66.15.71) is not being 
served. However, the web-based admin interface works like a champ, 
and all the pages work from a browser on the webserving machine 
itself. I have gone over and over and over, and can't find anything 
wrong with my rudimentary set up. I've wasted too much time looking 
at the same stuff over and over. Any hints?
