I see.  In the System Status, the Mail Server is running correct?  In that 
case, make sure that sendmail_path is setup to:

sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i

The settings on the local hostname should have your server name with full 
qualified domain name.  That should be all to send out email via PHP.
