You can use the real CA signed certificate and copy it over to:
/Library/Tenon/WebServer/Configuration/ssl.crt/server.crt
and you also need to copy over the private key file to:
/Library/Tenon/WebServer/Configuration/ssl.keys/server.key

I tried this and I still get browser warnings.
Does it matter that the domain which owns this cert is on a
different IP address from the iTools 7 admin?
Sorry, iTools Admin server are the following pair of files instead:
/Library/Tenon/WebServer/Configuration/ssl.keys/admin-server.key
/Library/Tenon/WebServer/Configuration/ssl.crt/admin-server.crt
I probably read your message too fast, and given incorrect file
names. The filenames server.key, and server.crt are the default SSL
host certificate files.
Oops, did replacing them cause any problems? (I renamed the originals
and can put them back...)
It should be fine. Some browser would store your certificate, and it
might cause those browser to freak out. I.e. Camino, in this case, it
would be best to purge the browser cache and the user profile for the
browser. I don't think this issue would be experienced by Safari or IE
though.

Every time I connect to my iTools admin, I'm warned that the
certificate for server.local has expired. Since I have a CA-signed
SSL cert on that machine (on a different IP), is there any way I
can convince iTools admin to use that cert instead of the expired
one?
Barring that, how do I replace the current expired cert with a new
one, which I'm willing to do periodically, to avoid the annoying
warnings.
