The problem we're having is that some of the PDFs aren't able to be
viewed by some visitors to the site. Specifically, the problem appears
to be with Windows users running Internet Explorer v6. The Mac users
we've tested with don't have any problems viewing any of the PDFs on
the site.

However, there's no consistency to the problem. In other words, some
PDFs can be viewed by some users and not others, making it hard to
isolate the cause of the problem.

Hi again,
The problem may well be with how the PDF files are created, rather than with the server. I have encountered this issue when a designer uploaded a file & said Windows users were having problems viewing - the PDFs were created on a Mac, but some users could not see anything on Windows. When the PDFs were created on a PC, no problem - obviously some sort of inconsistency with the way PDFs between Windows & Mac, so I would first try a different method of creation IF those files are created on Mac.
Also, I would update to iTools 7.3 if you are able - there may also be something that is on that update which may assist in your problem.

Hi Terry

The PDFs are created on a Mac. I print to a postscript file. Then, using Distiller v5.0.5 I make the PDFs.

If it's a Mac v PC problem, how come some users can view the PDFs after simply rebooting, or trying again?

Unfortunately, I don't have the option of creating the PDFs on a Wintel machine. Although, I could possibly upgrade to Acrobat 6.

I'll look into upgrading to iTools 7.3 - if it's a free upgrade from 7.2 :-)

Thanks again for the feedback. I'll try the Acrobat upgrade first.
Hi again,
Have you tried simply printing to a PDF on OSX as a trial? It is worth your while to grab a cheap wintel box just for testing purposes. It's a pain, but will save you a lot of headaches in the long run.

Hi Terry

Yep. Tried printing to PDF, still had problems.

I would try a Wintel box if I could afford it. Unfortunately, I literally can't afford to spend any money on this job. I can spend time but have no funds to outlay for any purchases.

BTW: We are running iTools 7.3 - I had assumed it was 7.2 because of the title page when running iTools admin.

Cheers
Jonathan
