I suspect that Mambo provides the necessary tools to delete and modify the
files associated with a site. By using ftp, aren't you (your client) trying to
circumvent Mambo? If you change ownership, then you take away Mambo's ability
to do its job, don't you?
ftp or Mambo -- pick one tool and use it.
