Howdy:
FWIW, I was playiing around w/ some of the Widgets available in OSX
10.4 and ran across a WhoIs source I hadn't seen before:
<www.whois.sc>
It's pretty nifty in that:
1) It seems to find domains for all registrars ( no Network
Solutions blockage ).
2) It gives a ton of info about the domain, including
un/registered TLD options, screen shot of main page, how many other
domains at that IP if virtual hosting, and other possibly interesting
stuff ( note also the image usage for registered eMail addresses ).
3) Links to other interesting stats, etc. on the WWW in general.
One of the interesting links is to the worldwide IP allocations list
in case you want to know who has class "A" registrations ( Apple is one
of the few companies ), or want to easily block whole areas of the
globe ( RIPE, APNIC, etc. ):
<http://www.whois.sc/internet-statistics/world-ip.html>
For those that can use widgets, the actual name is "Whoisdget.wdgt",
and it should be available via VersionTracker.com, or one of the
growing number of widget sites. It works by you entering the requested
domain in the widget, then it opens a page of results in your default
browser.
Enjoy.
