Sounds to me like the Tiger indexing. I noticed it on both the machines I installed Tiger on (no iTools, just office workstations). On the initial install, after reboot, suuuuuper long time before seeing the desktop. The first machine I did, a laptop, I ended up rebooting four times before I figured out it was spotlight indexing happening for the first time.

When I next did the desktop unit upgrade to 10.4, I just let it sit for several minutes. When it was done indexing, everything went normally.

Terry, are you seeing the stall on the OS X install or the iTools install? It's not totally clear from the posts. Or maybe it is that after installing iTools over Tiger, Spotlight is reindexing the drive?

Which should be done first - the upgrade to Panther or the upgrade to iTools 8?

Hi again,
I'd been testing iTools 8 beta since last October or so & during the upgrade, I found that either way worked. My personal preference was to upgrade iTools first, then do the upgrade to OSX - you may have to (though not necessarily) rerun the iTools installer again.
During the install, please note that on my server, during the last stage of the install, there was a period of about 5 minutes where the installer looked hung - just wait & it should pull up & finish off, then you can restart.

Terry, thanks for this insight. I just wanted to mention that there was a beta that had difficulty installing on a 10.3.9 system, so this might be the installer hang you saw. Now, with the shipping package, the install on 10.3.9 is flawless.

Hi again,
I did the upgrade to the shipping version & saw the same issue last night. My system was an upgrade from 10.3.9, so maybe it's related. It did indeed look like an installer hang.

So you're saying this was on Tiger? A Tiger system upgraded from 10.3.9, is that what you have? And there was a long delay and then it finished correctly, is that what you saw?
