Re: Installing Client on Xserve
Unfortunately, I don't know of a way around this. Unlike a Linux box, so
many useful OS X tools really need a GUI user to be logged in. Since my
servers are in highly secured facilities, I go ahead and have them
auto-login. As a long-time IT guy, it makes me cringe sometimes, but in
reality I don't think I'm losing a lot of security.
If a machine was user accessible, then I can see a bigger problem with
this technique.

We've converted all of our Xserve's to 10.4 workstation. Even brand
new ones. It's no problem.
I do recommend you run SMARTReporter on your Xserve and set it up to
email you if there is a problem. The one missing thing with
workstation OS X vs. Server is hardware monitoring.

Hi again,
I have had SMART reporter for ages on my desktop machine - do you
know if there is some way to have it start at boot time for a machine
which does not come up to log in automatically? Would be great to run
that service on an iTools server.
